More about Denise Thimes

“Denise’s performances reflect a distinct style that delights audiences with a mixture of smooth, mellow tones and rich ‘bluesy‐ness’; her scat takes audiences where jazz legends play.”

— EXODUS TO JAZZ, ROCHESTER, NY

Denise Thimes has performed with such jazz notables as Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the late Clark Terry, Dr. Billy Taylor, Earl May, Benny Powell, and James Moody. She has also graced the stage with the likes of Houston Person, Jimmy and Tootie Heath, Bobby McFerrin, and Bucky Pizzarelli.

In recent years, Ms. Thimes has appeared in Paris with David Sanborn. She sang for the Queen of Thailand, Queen Elizabeth II, and President George W. Bush, and she was handpicked by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, to perform for Franklin’s 72nd birthday celebration.

When Denise is not performing, she wears another hat. She is the passionate Founder & Executive Director of the Mildred Thimes Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Thimes appeals for education about and awareness of the fatal disease that struck her mother in 1997.

Whether headlining at Dizzy’s Coca Cola Room in New York, conquering the national jazz festival scene, or sharing the stage with the legendary Tony Bennett, Denise Thimes has an unmistakable tendency to steal the show and astonish crowds. As jazz aficionado Phoebe Jacobs stated following another famed New York show, “Denise Thimes is like Ella and Sarah born all over again.”

It’s time for you to experience Denise Thimes.
