Fabricadabra
“Fabricadabra” is an exhibit of the fiber art of two artists, Phyllis Boger and Constance Grayson. The exhibit’s title also acknowledges the magic that happens when the everyday component of fabric is painted, dyed, stitched and otherwise manipulated into art. The playfulness, rich color and dimensionality of the work in the exhibit adds to the sense of magic.
Phyllis and Constance begin their creative process with the same raw material—fabric in one form or the other. From there, their individual styles and techniques diverge. Phyllis’ work is comprised primarily of painted or dyed silk. Phyllis’ use of fabric in her work is for the substrate upon which she creates her final piece. Constance also begins with fabric but, in her case, bits and bits of fabric that she assembles and ultimately stitches into the completed work.
This exhibit will be the third two-artist exhibit of work by Phyllis and Constance. Their styles are different but their use of fabric as a key component in their work, their playful designs and their love of color are unifying themes in their work.
